Our broad band infra-red filters, in the region of 800 to 2000nm, can be made to your specifications regarding size and finishes. These filters can be used for shutter and light control, lasers, photography and many appliances that are used today in military hardware, consumer, domestic and leisure goods. Prism 'A' is highly scratch resistant and is manufactured either standard or with a fine or medium anti-glare. Our Acrylic is also cast in house and is especially useful when an overall tight tolerance is required on thickness etc. Other specified material such as Polaroid, Polycarbonate, and others are imported or bought in. Linear Polarizers Polaroid synthetic linear filters possess special properties for selectively absorbing light vibrations in certain planes. When unpolarized light (which is a complex mixture of vibrations lying in all possible directions transverse to the line of travel) is passed through a linear polarizer, its vibrations become confined to a single linear plane and the light is considered "polarized". This linearly polarized light can be modified to suppress unwanted reflections and to eliminate glare for a variety of applications. Circular Polarizers A circular polarizer comprises a polarizer with a quarter wave retarder, whose slow and fast axes are at 45 degrees to the axis of the retarder. When this polarized light ray passes through the retarder, its vibration direction is made to move in a helical pattern. After the light ray is reflected from a specular surface the sense of rotation is stopped in the return through the retarder. The light ray is now linearly polarized in a plane of 90 degrees to its original polarization plane, and is absorbed by the linearly polarized component of the circular polarizer. Polaroid is available in many colours and comes in glass or plastic filters and with or without an anti-glare surface.
